Install Jelly Bean on LG Optimus Black P970

LG's Optimus Black was not on the list of LG's devices to get Android 4.0 ICS or the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates. With LG focusing on strategies to conquer the smartphone market dominated by Samsung and maybe Apple too, a lot of their previous devices missed out support officially. But XDA Developers never disappointed us if we have an android phone :). You can get the latest Android 4.1 OS on your LG Optimus Black P970 by installing the famous Cyanogenmod 10 which will bring Jelly Bean for your phone. Jelly Bean has a lot of cool features like project butter, Google Now, better UI than Gingerbread and lot more!

This ROM is under development and there are a lot of bugs, but you can try it for now and if you don't like it, you can remove it. XDA's member Chenleicpp has compiled the CM10 from source. Let's see how to install it on LG Optimus Black
  • LG Optimus Black P970. No other phones are supported. Check About Phone before continuing.
  • Full phone backup.
  • Atleast 70% charge.
  • Preferably an SD Card with free space.

How to install Jelly Bean on LG Optimus Black


1. You need Clockworkmod Recovery(CWM) installed on your phone. If you don't have it, you can google it :)

2. Download the ROM from the developer thread here. Copy the ROM to your SD card(external preferably). Do not extract. 

3.  Reboot into Clockworkmod recovery and make a nandroid backup of your phone incase anything goes wrong.  Use vol buttons to navigate in CWM

4. Select wipe data/factory reset and confirm it. 

5. Now select Install zip from SD card and select the ROM you downloaded by home button/power button.

6. Wait for it to install. After installation, go to advanced and clear dalvik cache. 

7. Reboot the system from the home of CWM, first boot might take long. Reboot again after phone starts up.

    after install this, my phone is not booting it is showing CWM screen. what to do?
